Box Score Game 2 (PDF) BATON ROUGE, La. – Participating in the competitive Tiger Classic hosted by LSU, the Ospreys were on the short end of both games of their season-opening doubleheader. The University of Connecticut came away with 3-0 win in game one while third-ranked LSU captured a 9-0 victory in the nightcap.
Game 1 The Ospreys managed four hits against Connecticut's Jill Stockley but were unable to push a run across. Junior
Ashia Kerr went 2-for-2 with a walk to highlight the Osprey offense.
Navia Penrod and
Shelby Duncan combined for the other two hits in the contest.
Huskie catcher Jacklyn Dubois broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with an infield single that scored Kelli Bates. The lead would hold until the top of the sixth when Alyssa Gardea hit a two-run home run over the left field wall to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Stockley was credited with the complete game shutout and struck out three batters to earn the win. Osprey junior
Logan Green also went the distance and struck out two in a losing effort.
Game 2In the final game of the night, the Tigers were able to outslug the Ospreys with six hits including a grand slam off the bat of Jenna Kreamer in the bottom of the second. LSU tacked on three runs on two hits and an error in the third then capped off the night with two more big swings in the fourth. A double by Emily Griggs and a triple by pinch-hitter, Taylor Satchell to pushed the score to 9-0.
The Ospreys made LSU freshman Sydney Smith work for her first collegiate win by having a base runner in every inning. The only hit of the night came on a bunt single by Penrod in the top of the third. Smith struck out eight batters but issued three walks and hit by pitch in her debut.
North Florida left six runners on base in five trips to the plate.
Action continues Saturday for the Ospreys at the Tiger Classic with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. Ohio State will be North Florida's first opponent of the day which will be Immediately followied with a bout against Pacific scheduled for approximately 3:30.
