HOW IT HAPPENED
Xavier ran out to a 6-0 lead capped by a Raeshaun Gaffney trey before Ioannidis answered with her own long ball to end the Ospreys' drought. North Florida scored one more basket courtesy of Johnson, but held the Musketeers without a basket for more than four minutes until Imani Partlow scored a layup to give the home team a 16-5 lead after one.
Â
In the second, the hosts got out to a 35-12 lead with a 19-6 run thanks to five triples. A three-point play from Johnson closed the gap to 20, but it was short lived as XU hit another three-pointer. The Ospreys outscored Xavier, 7-5 over the last three minutes, but the hosts led 43-22 at the break.
Â
North Florida scored back-to-back baskets to open the third frame and stayed with the Musketeers through the third as XU only outscored the Ospreys 17-15. Hanson added eight of her team-high 13 points.
Â
Xavier outscored the Ospreys 23-9 in the final 10 minutes as UNF hit just four baskets. The Musketeers outshot UNF, 51 to 31 percent from the floor and 61 to 19 percent from long range.
Â
LOOKING AHEAD
North Florida continues its schedule with four games away from UNF Arena. The Ospreys play just up the road at Jacksonville University against South Alabama and Nicholls State on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
