Women’s Soccer Falls to Stetson in ASUN Quarters

DeLAND, Fla. – North Florida (6-9-2) saw its season come to a close this afternoon after a 5-2 defeat at the hands of third-seeded Stetson (9-6-2) in the quarterfinal of the ASUN Championship. After taking a one-goal lead at the half, the Hatters scored three times in the second half to pull away.

Match Summary
Stetson's Sarah Collins was once again a thorn in the side of the North Florida defense as she scored the first two goals of the game just seven minutes a part. In the regular season matchup on Oct. 29 she also tallied two goals including the game-tying score that forced overtime.

The Ospreys pulled within a goal with a little under 13 minutes to play in the first half when freshman Brandi Walker fired a shot that fit neatly under the crossbar. She force a Stetson turnover on the Osprey attacking end and was credited with her first collegiate goal. She became the eighth different Osprey to tally a goal this season.

The Hatters began their three-goal, second-half run in the blink of an eye. Briana Camargo scored Stetson's third goal of the day just 11 seconds into the second half to take a 3-1 lead. The Ospreys took little time to respond and once again make it a one-goal game on Alexis Bredeau's sixth goal of the season less than two minutes later. The goal came after a fantastic individual effort to get to the goal and was setup by Walker in the midfield. Her six goals on the year are the most by an Osprey since 2013.

The Hatters put the game out of reach with goals by Lily Ammon and Hailey Williams in just five minutes apart beginning in the 63rd minute.

-Senior goalkeeper Victoria Ekeli was one save shy of her career-high and made nine saves for the Ospreys.
