FORT MYERS, Fla. – The North Florida swim team will begin its 2016-17 season on Friday afternoon at fellow Coastal Collegiate Sports Association foe, FGCU at 4:00 p.m.. Fans can follow the meet live via the meet mobile app.

Meet Notes
Dual Meet Debut: Both the Ospreys and the Eagles will be competing in their first dual meets of the season.
Kiana Albert and
Shelby Panter are the only two Ospreys this season who have raced competitively this season, participating in last month's College Swimming Coaches Association of America Open Water Championships in Kansas. The Eagles have swam in the All-Florida Invite at Nova Southeastern and the FGCU Classic so far this season.The Reigning CCSA Champion FGCU Eagles went 12-1 in dual meet action last season.
Influx of Talent: In the offseason Head Coach
Ian Coffey added depth to his roster, welcoming 13 newcomers to the 2016-17 squad. Of the 13 new Ospreys, 11 come in as true freshman while two transfers arrive from Division I programs.
Building on Momentum: The North Florida swim program reached new heights last season breaking eight school records and scoring 470 points at CCSA Championships, the second highest total in school history. Head Coach
Ian Coffey was named CCSA Co-Coach of the Year for his efforts.
Key Returners: Sophomore
Kaleigh Newcomb made a splash her first year on campus by becoming the school record holder in the 100 backstroke. She placed four times in the school's all-time top 10 in the 100 back and owns the eighth fastest time in school history in the 200 backstroke.
Senior
Angel Morrison has shown the ability to put up fast times in her previous three seasons as an Osprey and will team up with Newcomb to form one of the top backstroke tandems in the CCSA. Last season Morrison qualified for finals at CCSA Championships in the 100 back and went on to swim the eighth fastest time in program history.
Entering her second season,
Emily Draskovich will look to build on a solid freshman campaign highlighted by her swim at the CCSA Championships in the 200 Fly which was the eighth fastest in school history.
Junior
Amy Creech will return as the team's top sprint freestyler. At CCSA Championships last year, she swam a career best time of 24.29 in the 50 freestyle.
With a competitive race already under their belts in 2016, sophomore
Kiana Albert and senior
Shelby Panter will anchor a deeper distance group. The duo finished 30
th and 31
st respectively in the inaugural CSCAA Open Water Championships. Panter was the second fastest distance freestyler on the team a year ago.
Returning members from the three record breaking relays (200 Free, 200 Medley, 400 Medley) last season include Creech,
Taylor Schmidinger and Newcomb.
