Amy Taylor etched her name into the North Florida swimming record books. Taylor placed first in the 1000 freestyle, eclipsing the mark previously of future Osprey Hall of Famer, Lyn Ann Nelson.
Taylor, who already appears five times on the UNF All-Time top-10 list in the 1000 freestyle, swam a time of 10:16.43 in this afternoon's tri-meet with Vanderbilt and Marshall. The swim bested Nelson's six-year old record time by .48 seconds and was nearly five seconds faster than Taylor's previous career best of 10:21.06. The historic swim is also the second fastest in the CCSA this season.
Nelson was announced earlier this year as one of
four former UNF student-athletes to be inducted into the school Hall of Fame on Feb. 20. Nelson still owns six school records in the 100, 200, 500 and 1650 freestyles and was a member of the school record 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay combinations.
In addition to the record-breaking performance, Taylor placed second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.18 and third in the 500 freestyle with time of 5:03.78. Her 200 butterfly time is the 10
th fastest in school history.
As a team the Ospreys fell to host Vanderbilt, 204-57 and Marshall, 188-72. Vanderbilt won the tri-meet after topping Marshall, 147-113 head-to-head.
Freshman
Kiana Albert was a little over a second off her season-best time in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 1:57.96. She also was the next best Osprey swimmer in the 500 free, placing seventh with a time of 5:03.78.
The relay combination of
Chase Walker,
Nicole Nesto, Taylor and
Janie Kennedy placed third in the 200 freestyle relay. It was the third fastest 200 relay time of the season for the Ospreys.
