JACKSONVILLEÂ -- The Atlantic Sun Conference leading North Florida basketball team wraps up the first half of league play Saturday against rival FGCU at 7 p.m., in UNF Arena. The game, which is sponsored by Waychoff's Air Conditioning, is being carried on ESPN3 and 92.5 FM.
Â
The Ospreys (17-6, 6-0) scored a 94-80 road win over league newcomer NJIT in their last outing. The UNF-NJIT game was delayed for a day due to blizzard conditions in New Jersey last weekend. Against the Highlanders, North Florida connected on a school record 20 three-pointers with all seven Ospreys that played making at least one trey. Dallas Moore, the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, led the way for UNF finishing with 29 points while Beau Beech finished with 20 points.
North Florida has won its last seven games overall and owns a 17-game home win streak heading into Saturday's tilt.
FGCU (13-9, 4-2) is currently tied for second in the conference standings following back-to-back losses to Lipscomb and Jacksonville. The Eagles had won seven straight games before their current skid. Marc-Eddy Norelia leads the FGCU attack in both scoring (15.4 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg). The Eagles are the league's top rebounding squad at 41.2 per contest and rank among the nation's top 20 teams in defending the three-point arc as they hold opponent's to just 30 percent shooting.
Saturday's game has been designated a UNF "Gray Out" as part of the team's Color Out Game series. Osprey fans are encouraged to wear gray shirts to the game. The UNF Bookstore has specially designed gray shirts for the game on sale for $12 per shirt or fans can purchase the gray and blue package for $20. North Florida's "Blue Out" game is scheduled for Feb. 20 against USC Upstate.
After facing FGCU, North Florida tips off the second half of their conference slate Monday (Feb. 1) at UNF Arena with a rematch against Stetson.
