NEWARK, N.J. -- After a blizzard postponed the game for a day, the North Florida basketball team makes its first visit to Fleisher Athletic Center to battle Atlantic Sun Conference newcomer NJIT on Sunday at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN3 and carried on 92.5 FM locally on Jacksonville radio.
The Ospreys (16-6, 5-0 ASun) have won six games in a row and also carry a three game road win streak into Sunday's tilt following an impressive 78-62 win at USC Upstate on Thursday night. UNF has now opened conference play at 5-0 in two straight seasons.
Against the Spartans, six different players reached double figures led by a career best 16 points from sophomore Nick Malonga and junior Dallas Moore. Beau Beech and Chris Davenport narrowly missed tallying double-doubles with both finishing the night with 10 points and nine rebounds. Â
Sunday's game pits two of the nation's top three-point shooters as UNF's Trent Mackey ranks second nationally with 76 treys while NJIT's Damon Lynn is third with 74.
NJIT (11-9, 2-2) is in its first season of play in the Atlantic Sun and was tabbed as one of the preseason favorites to claim the conference title. The Highlanders dropped their first two conference games by a total of six points before posting wins over Stetson and Jacksonville in their last two outings. Lynn leads a trio of NJIT double-figure scorers with 18 points per game.
After Sunday's clash with the Highlanders, North Florida heads home to UNF Arena to wrap up the first half of the Atlantic Sun schedule against rival FGCU on Saturday, Jan. 30.
