Box Score Box Score (PDF)WILMINGTON, N.C. – In the nightcap of the Courtyard by Marriot-Wrightsville Beach Classic doubleheader, host UNC Wilmington (2-0-1) emerged with a 5-1 victory over North Florida (1-2). Seahawk forward Colin Bonner recorded a hat trick in the contest.
Sophomore Josh Castellanos scored the only North Florida goal in the contest in the 29
th minute. The tally was the first of his young Osprey career.
The offense of UNC-Wilmington came out firing, scoring three times in 17-minute span. Bonner scored the game's first goal in the 13
th minute when he headed a long pass from Ben Fisher into the right side of the goal. After the Ospreys were called for a foul in the box in the 27
th minute, Bonner converted the penalty kick to give the Seahawks a 2-0 advantage.
Just 46 seconds later, Castellanos cut the UNCW lead in half when he punched in a rebound of an Osprey penalty kick. Junior
Simen Solstad had his penalty kick saved but Castellanos was in the right place at the right time. Solstad was credited with his second assist of the season.
The first half scoring spree ended with a UNCW goal by Daniel Escobar. The senior midfielder rocketed a left foot shot past the outstretched hands of
Kyle Nasta to make the score 3-1. Fisher registered his second assist of the night on the goal.
UNCW picked up right where they left off in the second half and Bonner completed the hat trick with another header just seven minutes into the period. Garcia recorded his third point of the night, delivering the well placed cross.
The game went through a 40-minute lightning delay before play resumed at 9:38 p.m. Jose Garcia capped off his five-point night with a goal in the 71
st minute.
The Seahawks will go on to play Campbell University on Sunday who lost 2-0 to Elon earlier in the day.
The Ospreys will continue their stay in Wilmington to take on Elon on Sunday at noon in the third game of the Courtyard by Marriott-Wrightsville Beach Classic
