Weekly Notes JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida volleyball plays its first mid-week match of the season on Tuesday night when the Ospreys head west on I-10 to Florida A&M. Match time is set for 6 p.m., at the Al Lawson Center.
"Florida A&M is a better team than what their record indicates," said head coach
Steve Loeswick. "They have played some really good competition thus far, so we will have to be ready for the challenge of playing our first mid-week match on the road."
UNF comes off a perfect 3-0 weekend at its own Courtyard Mayo Classic, defeating Bethune-Cookman, Campbell and Florida Atlantic during home-opening weekend. As a result of her strong 4.20 kill-per-set performance,
Carina Hoff was selected as the Tournament's MVP and then
named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week earlier on Monday. Also joining Hoff with All-Tournament honors were
Tessa Alyman and
Courtney Miller.
Tuesday's match is the first of four straight-road matches for the Ospreys. UNF plays at The Citadel Tournament Friday and Saturday in Charleston, S.C.
Mid-Week Matches: Tuesday's match is the first of three mid-week matches for the Ospreys this season. UNF plays at Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday, Sept. 29 and then hosts Florida A&M on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Under head coach
Steve Loeswick, UNF is 2-1 in its first mid-week match of the season. Additionally, all three of those matches have occurred on the road.
When Hitting .200 or higher: UNF has hit .200 in eight of its first 10 matches. The Ospreys are 7-1 so far this season when hitting at least .200.
Scouting Florida A&M: Searches for first win of the season... Tuesday's match will be its fourth of five matches played in Tallahassee for the span of Sept. 11-19... eight of 10 matches have only taken three sets... have gone to four sets twice.
UNF-Florida A&M Series: Florida A&M leads the series 6-5, but UNF won last season's meeting 3-2 on Oct. 21, 2014 in Tallahassee.
