CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of North Florida women's tennis' season came to a close on Friday with a 4-0 loss to No. 15 Miami in the NCAA Tournament First Round held at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

"Today was tough. We could have played better tennis, but we competed well," said head coach Audra Cohen. "This team worked extremely hard and had an unbelievable amount of heart in getting to this point. Moving forward, I am excited for the future of the program and the addition of our recruiting class as well as the continued growth of our returning players."

UNF faced strong competition on all three doubles and all six singles courts.

In doubles, Esther Zuniga and Taylor Hollander fell 8-1 to Sinead Lohan and Stephanie Wagner at the No. 1 spot. The Hurricanes clinched the doubles point when Luise Intert and Rebeca Pereira dropped an 8-3 match to Monique Albuquerque and Silvia Fuentes at No. 2 doubles. Meanwhile, on the third court, Quetzali Vazquez and Marina Cunningham got out to a strong start and led Lileikite and Wendy Zhang 3-0 before the Hurricane pair rattled off seven-straight points in the unfinished match.

The Ospreys had a challenging time during the singles play, facing ranked opponents on four of the six courts. Miami claimed the top three courts in order to get the match win. Valdez suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss to No. 37 Lohan at No. 2 singles and Miami went up 2-0. The Hurricanes gained a 3-0 advantage after No. 11 Wagner defeated Zuniga 6-2, 6-1 on the No. 1 court. Fuentes had the match-winning point after Vazquez dropped a 6-0, 6-2 No. 3 singles match. Both Courts 4 and 6 were in the middle of the second set when the match ended. Meanwhile, Marina Cunningham battled No. 108 Wendy Zhang tough on the No. 5 court with Zhang only up 6-5 in the first set when the match was completed.

UNF finishes the season with a 17-4 overall record. The Ospreys claimed their third Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championship and their third Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship under Cohen. UNF graduates four seniors in Marina Cunningham, Taylor Hollander, Rebeca Pereira and Esther Zuniga.

"I am very proud of the growth of our four seniors throughout their time as Ospreys," said Cohen. "They really have become strong young women that are ready for the next steps in their lives."
