KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The North Florida women's golf team posted a second round 304 on Monday and head into final round action at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic ranked third in a field of 40 teams at Oak Point Golf Club.
The Ospreys own a two round total of 601 and are just three strokes behind current second-place squad Troy. Junior Mary Dawson carded her second consecutive round of even-par 72 to again lead the UNF squad with sophomore Lauren Coe making the biggest move, cutting four strokes off her opening round performance to post a second round 1-over 73.
Dawson is currently tied for third in the medalist competition at 144, just three shots behind tournament leader Laura Fuenfstueck (141) from tournament host College of Charleston. Coe joins Dawson among the Top 25, ranking tied for 22nd with a two-day tally of 150.
Junior Kelly Aylwin shot a second round 79 moving into a tie for 37th at 153, while fellow junior Emelie Alpe posted an 80 to rank tied for 44th at 154. Junior Belinda George rounded out the Osprey lineup with a round of 82 on Tuesday and is tied for 114th at 161.
The College of Charleston moved to the top of the team leaderboard after a round of 288 on Tuesday gave them a tournament total of 588. Troy is second at 598 followed by UNF, Stetson (602) and Elon (603) in the top five. The Top 20 teams after 36 holes of play will now compete Tuesday for the team title on the Oak Point Course, while teams 21-40 will compete for the consolation flight title on the Osprey Point Course.
Final round action at the Kiawah Island Classic is slated for a shotgun start at 9 a.m. North Florida will be paired with CofC and Troy starting on holes 1-3 on Tuesday.
