@OspreyWTEN Set to Battle South Alabama on Saturday

Live Scoring

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A showdown between two teams on hot winning streaks is set to take place on Saturday morning at the UNF Tennis Complex when University of North Florida women's tennis hosts South Alabama in the Ospreys' final tune-up before the start of Atlantic Sun play.

"Tomorrow is going to be a tough battle," said head coach Audra Cohen. "South Alabama is a gritty team, but so are we. It will come down to who is more fit and has a tough mentality. We have worked very hard this spring, so I am happy we are going into this opportunity well prepared."

Since starting the season with two losses at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, UNF has rattled off eight-straight wins, including two close 4-3 victories over UCF and USF. The Ospreys recently finished up a stretch of four matches in five days, going 4-0 during that spurt. UNF comes off a 6-1 win over George Washington on Wednesday.

Several Ospreys are on significant winning streaks this spring. Michelle Valdez is a perfect 9-0 in singles competition this spring and has seen time at the No. 2 (1-0), No. 3 (2-0), No. 4 (5-0) and No. 5 (1-0) courts. Quetzali Vazquez is on an eight-match winning streak with an unblemished mark of 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Esther Zuniga, who was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week on Wednesday, has won her last six singles matches. In doubles, Vazquez and Zuniga have teamed up to compile a four-match winning streak.

South Alabama has gotten out to a 9-0 start in the spring season and also recorded a 6-1 win over George Washington in its most recent match. The Jaguars have already faced one Atlantic Sun team this season, shutting out Kennesaw State 7-0 on Feb. 28 at Kennesaw. South Alabama has yet to lose a doubles point decision this season and are undefeated at No. 2 (7-0) and No. 3 (9-0) doubles. In singles, both Laura Matuskova and Emily Newton enter Saturday's match with 9-0 records, while both Mary Angela Martin and Monica Mitta enter with 7-1 marks.

Match time is set for 11 a.m., at the UNF Tennis Complex. Admission is free for all UNF home matches.
