Box Score (PDF)CHARLESTON, S.C. – St. John's (4-3) erased a five-run deficit to take down the North Florida baseball team, 8-6 this afternoon at CSU Ballpark. The Red Storm scored eight of the final nine runs in the contest in the first meeting between the two schools since 2000.
St. John's reliever Alex Katz quieted the Osprey bats after coming on in relief in the fourth inning. The lefthander surrendered only two hits over 4.1 innings of work to earn his first win of the season. The Ospreys racked up eight hits and scored five runs off Red Storm starting pitcher Ryan McCormick.
Senior
Alex Bacon was 3-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Osprey offense.
Patrick Ervin collected a pair of hits, scored twice and drove in a run from the lead-off spot.
Trent Higginbothem also recorded two hits, his team-leading, fourth multiple-hit game of the season.
North Florida starting pitcher
Tyler Moore left with a 5-4 lead after tossing five innings. He struck out three batters and walked two in his third start of 2015.
The game was tied up in the sixth inning on an unearned run. Ty Blankmeyer scored on a safety squeeze to knot the game up at six. The Red Storm took their first lead of the game in top of the seventh. Osprey reliever,
Matthew Naylor inherited two runners in scoring position and his first pitch was lined into right field by Anthony Brocato which enabled, Zach Lauricella to score. St. John's added another run when Troy Dixon grounded out to second base to make the score 8-6.
Matt Harris led the Red Storm with four hits, two runs scored and an RBI. St. John's had 13 hits on the afternoon and got two-hit performances from Michael Donadio, Brocato and Dixon.
Conner Andrews pitched in the eighth and ninth innings and struck out four of the six batters he faced.
The Ospreys will play one more against St. John's in the first game of a doubleheader tomorrow at noon. The nightcap will feature host, Charleston Southern and North Florida at 6:00 p.m. Lefthander
