Women's Tennis vs. UCF

Women's Tennis North Florida Athletics

@OspreyWTEN Back in Action on Wednesday, Hosts UCF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a week-and-a-half break, University of North Florida women's tennis is back on the courts on Wednesday afternoon when the Ospreys take on UCF. Match time is set for 2 p.m., at the UNF Tennis Complex.

"We always have great battles with UCF, so I'm anticipating another great match tomorrow," said head coach Audra Cohen. "In the past, we have done well in singles, but we have struggled to get the doubles point against them. If we want that point tomorrow, we will have to come out strong and be aggressive from the beginning. Then in singles, we have to stay focused and take care of each court."

Wednesday's match is the last of three-straight home matches for the Ospreys. UNF went 2-0 during its home-opening weekend, powering past UNC Wilmington 6-1 on Feb. 6 and then taking a 5-2 win over Troy on Feb. 8.

UNF has posted strong showings at No. 5 and No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles throughout the spring thus far. The Ospreys are 3-0 at No. 5 singles with Quetzali Vazquez owning a 2-0 mark in that spot. Luise Intert's two victories at No. 6 singles have allowed UNF to record a 2-0 record at No. 6 singles. Michelle Valdez is currently undefeated in single play this dual season, entering Wednesday with a 3-0 record (2-0 at No. 4 singles, 1-0 at No. 5 singles). Meanwhile, in doubles, Vazquez and Esther Zuniga have teamed up to got 3-1 on the No. 3 court and bring a three-match winning streak into Wednesday.

UCF brings a 4-2 record into Wednesday's match, but is 0-2 on the road so far this spring. The Knights come off a pair of 6-1 victories last week, defeating Bethune-Cookman on Feb. 11 and Connecticut on Feb. 13. Monica Matias, who won the Singles 4 Flight of the Bedford Cup held at UNF in the fall, is a perfect 5-0 at No. 6 singles. In doubles, the Knights own winning marks at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. UCF is 5-0 at No. 2 doubles and 4-1 on the No. 3 court.

Admission is free to all UNF women's tennis home matches.
