Live Scoring JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After two-and-a-half weeks since its last match, No. 69 University of North Florida men's tennis plays its only matches for the month of February this weekend as the Ospreys host No. 67 UCF and Furman at the UNF Tennis Complex. UNF takes on UCF on Friday at 4 p.m., and hosts Furman on Sunday at Noon.
"We cannot wait for an exciting weekend of tennis with two great teams coming in," said head coach
Mark Finnegan. "We expect to be tested on both days. If the guys stick to their games, it can be a great weekend of moving this program forward."
The Ospreys bring a 6-2 dual match record into Friday's match, returning to the courts for the first time since their 4-3 triumph over Florida Atlantic on Jan. 28. The weekend will be UNF's last set of matches for another two-and-a-half weeks as the Ospreys do not return to the courts until March 4 against South Alabama.
UNF has stayed ranked in the ITA Team Rankings. Meanwhile,
Jack Findel-Hawkins moved up in the ITA Singles Rankings that were released on Tuesday and is currently tabbed No. 70.
Success has followed the Ospreys throughout the dual season. UNF has a 23-11 combined recorded in singles play this dual season and is 13-5 in doubles matches so far this spring.
All three of this weekend's teams began the spring season at the Seminole Invitational. UNF went 3-0 at the spring-opening event, while UCF was 1-2 and Furman was 0-3. UCF and Furman faced each other in the consolation side of the bracket.
After a 1-4 start to the spring, UCF brings a four-match winning streak into Friday's match. The Knights' last four victories come amidst a six-match road swing. UCF started its winning streak by edging out Miami 4-3 on Jan. 19 and then went 3-0 at the Army Kick-Off Jan. 30-Feb. 1. The Knights have winning records at No. 2, No. 3 No. 4 and No. 5 singles. At No. 4 singles, UCF is 6-1 with Chris Barrus owning a 4-1 mark at that spot.
Furman begins the weekend with a neutral-site match against UCF on Saturday at the UNF Tennis Complex. The Paladins have already faced an Atlantic Sun team this spring, posting a 7-0 shutout of USC Upstate for their lone victory of the 2015 season. Furman comes off an 0-2 performance last weekend at Penn and Princeton, falling 5-2 on Feb. 6 at Penn and 4-3 at Princeton last Saturday.
Friday's UNF-UCF match is being billed as International Day with fans being encouraged to bring a flag to represent their home country. $1 beers will be available for sale for those aged 21-and-up.
