RICHMOND, Va. -- Following a brief holiday break, the North Florida basketball team returns to the hardwood against VCU, Wednesday night at Stuart C. Siegel Center.
The Ospreys (10-5), who have won four of their last five games, look to snap a three-game road skid. UNF dropped a tough 97-72 loss at Arkansas in their last outing before the break.Â
Junior Dallas Moore leads the Atlantic Sun in scoring at 19.7 points per game while four other Ospreys are also averaging double digits including Beau Beech (15.2 ppg), Trent Mackey (13.3), Demarcus Daniels (12.2) and Chris Davenport (12.0).
UNF currently leads the nation in three-point shooting making 12.9 treys per game. The Ospreys have made 194 three-pointers this season, 30 more than any other team in the country, and also ranks 5th in percentage at 44.1. Mackey leads the nation with 55 three-pointers made, a higher total than 19 Division I teams.
Wednesday's game marks the first all-time meeting between UNF and VCU. This will be the third contest this season against an Atlantic 10 squad with UNF having faced Dayton and Saint Louis earlier this season. Those game marked the first in program history versus A-10 squads.
VCU enters the game at 7-5 following back-to-back wins over Buffalo and Liberty. The Rams are 6-1 at home this season with their lone loss to Cincinnati. Melvin Johnson leads VCU at 17.9 points per game and is sixth in the nation with 45 three-pointers made.
North Florida closes out its non-conference slate on Saturday (Jan. 2) at Eastern Michigan.
