JACKSONVILLEÂ -- The North Florida basketball team wraps up a four-game homestand Saturday in UNF Arena against in-state foe Florida A&M at 7 p.m. The game is sponsored by Vystar and is being carried on ESPN3 and 92.5 FM.Â
The Ospreys (9-4) are carrying a program record 13-game home win streak into the contest, currently the 19th longest in the nation, following an 80-70 win over Austin Peay on Wednesday night. In addition, UNF's nine non-conference victories is the most in the program's Division I era and one shy of the all-time program mark.
In Wednesday's win over APSU, North Florida made 13 three-pointers marking the 10th time this season and seventh game in a row that UNF tallied double digit treys. Senior Trent Mackey, the nation's leader in three-pointers made with 47, led the way with five. Mackey's season total is currently greater than the total of 30 team's totals.
Junior Chris Davenport led the way for the Ospreys against the Governors finishing with a near double-double of 18 points and eight rebounds. Senior Beau Beech added 14 points and eight boards while Dallas Moore added 12 points and eight assists. Demarcus Daniels added 10 points and Mackey tallied 15 as UNF saw five or more players reach double figures in a game for the sixth time including each of the last three games.
UNF ranks first in the nation for three-pointers made (172) and three-pointers per game (13.2) while also listed fourth in three-point percentage (44.4). The Ospreys have connected on 20 more treys than any other team in the country with Mackey and Beech listed first and second, respectively, for threes made in the latest NCAA statistical rankings.
FAMU enters Saturday's contest with a 4-7 record after topping Southeast Louisiana, 67-64, on Tuesday night. The win snapped a three-game skid for the Rattlers. Malcolm Bernard paces Florida A&M in both scoring (12.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.2 rpg).
Having completed the season's longest home stand, North Florida next begins a stretch of four consecutive road game Tuesday at Arkansas.
