Lipscomb Nips @OspreyVB in Final Regular Season Road Tilt

Final Boxscore (pdf)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --  The North Florida volleyball team dropped a hard fought 3-0 decision to league co-leader Lipscomb in their final regular season road tilt, Sunday afternoon at Allen Arena.

The Ospreys (19-10, 5-7 Atlantic Sun) battled the Bisons (19-8, 11-1) all match but came up just short in tightly contested sets by the count of 25-17, 25-23, 25-22.

Courtney Miller finished with a team-best nine kills followed by eight from Ambre Desaulnay and seven for Morgan Van Alstine. Ashley LaBorde topped the squad in digs for the fourth consecutive match tallying 11 while Desaulnay added nine and Abby Fesl had seven to go along with her 21 assists.

The match was truly a battle on the front line as the two squads combined for a total of 20 team blocks, with Lipscomb netting 11 and UNF collecting nine. Miller and Van Alstine both had four blocks to pace the Osprey performance, with Carina Hoff and Erin Edwards each posting three.

Over the three sets, UNF and Lipscomb played through 24 ties and 12 lead changes. The deciding factor in the highly competitive contest was the Bisons effectiveness on offense, with LU posting a .220 to .140 edge in hitting percentage and a 48-35 margin in total kills.

In the opening set neither team would hold larger than a three-point advantage until a slight surge for Lipscomb gave them a 19-14 lead. The Ospreys would trim the margin to just two before the Bisons closed out the frame for the early 1-0 lead.

The lead in set two again seesawed back-and-forth with the squads staying within three of each other for the entire stanza. UNF trailed 21-18 before tying the score and 22 and 23, but Lipscomb tallied a pair of late kills to edge past the Ospreys for the set win.

Set three was more of the same for the Ospreys and Bisons with neither squad able to grab control of play. Trailing 19-14, UNF scored six straight points to seize a 20-19 advantage. Van Alstine was a spark in the rally collecting a kill and a pair of block assists. Lipscomb answered with a 6-2 spurt to close out the set and match.

North Florida now concludes their regular season schedule with a pair of home matches beginning, Friday, Nov. 13 against Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. The Ospreys will also host USC Upstate on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 3 p.m., with the UNF senior class honored in a post-match ceremony.
