Boxscore (PDF) KENNESAW, Ga. – University of North Florida volleyball's winning streak came to an end on Saturday as the Ospreys dropped a close 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 22-25, 24-26) match to Kennesaw State at the KSU Convocation Center.
Tessa Alyman registered an 11-point, 11-dig double-double, while
Abby Fesl had a 29-assist, 10-dig double-double.
Erin Edwards and
Carina Hoff chipped in with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Kimberly Ferguson and
Ambre Desaulnay recorded 20 and 17 digs, respectively.
UNF hit .150 with 53 kills, 75 digs and 10.0 blocks.
Anaiah Boyer paced the Owls with 15 kills and 14 digs, while Amariah Boyer and Sydni Shelton added in 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Kristi Piedimonte put up 37 assists and Katarina Morton and Maddie Jones each made 17 digs.
Kennesaw State hit .226 and made 52 kills, 69 digs and 13.0 blocks.
In the first set, UNF saw the Owls string together multiple points in order to pull away. Kennesaw state went up by as many as five as an Anaiah Boyer kill made it 17-12. UNF chipped away at the Owl's lead and came to with three several times, including at 24-21 on an Owl attack error. However, Jones notched the set-winning kill on the next point.
Several late Osprey runs allowed UNF to win the second set. Down by two, an Alyman kill was the first of three-straight points resulting in the Ospreys gaining a 20-19 lead. As the teams battled for control, UNF finished the set on a three-point run that was sparked by a Hoff kill.
UNF attempted to battle back after trailing by five late in the third set. After a kill from Shelton put the Owls up 20-15, the Ospreys chipped away at the deficit and came to within two as a kill from Alyman made it 24-22. However, after a Kennesaw State timeout, Shelton registered the set-winning kill to put the Owls up 2-1 in the match.
An eight-point run allowed the Ospreys to go up 13-11 in the fourth set. Kennesaw State responded by stringing together several points and gained an 18-15 advantage off an Osprey attacking error. UNF came back to took a 20-19 lead on a block from
Morgan Van Alstine and Hoff. With the set tied at 23-23, UNF gained set-point advantage on an Alyman kill. However, Kennesaw State answered with a three-point, match-ending run.
UNF finishes its four-match road swing on Tuesday at Savannah State. Match time is set for 6 p.m., at Willcox-Wiley Gym.
