Boxscore (PDF) SAVANNAH, Ga. – University of North Florida hit .343 and served 13 aces en route to overpowering Savannah State in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-15) sweep on Tuesday night at Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium.
"We got to try some new things tonight," said head coach
Steve Loeswick. "We were still able to be successful and play our level of volleyball, while giving different people time on the court."
Morgan Van Alstine led the Ospreys with nine kills.
Carinne Turner tallied 26 assists and
Haley Harrison served four aces.
Kimberly Ferguson added nine digs.
UNF recorded 33 kills and 27 digs.
Gabrielle Nathaniel paced the Lady Tigers with nine kills. Caitlynn Masoe made 14 assists and Alexis Washington tallied nine digs.
Savannah State had 24 kills and 26 digs.
The Ospreys scored consecutive points on its first five service rotations, going up 17-7 on an
Erin Edwards kill. UNF ultimately ended the set on a four-point run that consisted of two
Ambre Desaulnay aces.
After a close start to the second set, UNF pulled away behind a five-point run to go up 22-14. A
Katarina Raicevic ace gave the Ospreys the eight-point lead. Savannah State tried to come back, but
Carinne Turner registered the set-winning kill that allowed UNF to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set had another close start, but UNF eventually gained an eight-point, 16-8 advantage on a Desaulnay kill. Although Savannah State attempted to chip away at UNF's lead, the Ospreys scored three-consecutive points to end the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
UNF begins a four-match homestand with a pair of matches this weekend. The Ospreys host Lipscomb on Friday at 6 p.m., and NJIT on Saturday at 1 p.m., at UNF Arena.
