Last year the Ospreys put forth a 118-point improvement at the Coastal Collegiate Swim Association Championships. In the year's final meet, 11 different swimmers qualified for the finals of 14 different events. The 2015-16 season will be the eighth season of competition in the CCSA.
Key Returners: Highlighting the seven returners this season is senior
Amy Taylor who owned the team's top times in five different events in 2014-15. She was the Ospreys top finisher at CCSAs last year, placing 11
th in the 500 Free and 13
th in the 200 Free. She owned four times that were among the league's top 24 in dual meet action. Among the top swimmers from last year that will be featured on this year's roster include senior
Janie Kennedy, junior
Angel Morrison and sophomore
Chase Walker. Morrison was the team's top backstroker with Kennedy not far behind. The emergence of sophomore
Chase Walker and
Amy Creech, two of the team's top freestyle sprinters, will also add depth to a formidable lineup.
Newcomers: Coffey worked hard on the recruiting trails in his first full year on the job and his squad will feature 13 newcomers, three transfers and 10 true freshmen. Sophomores
Marinda Kitchen (Radford University) and
Megan Kovac (Western Kentucky) each bring a year of NCAA Division I experience under their caps to this year's team. Junior transfer
Shelby Panter, the first North Florida swimmer to hail from the state of Indiana, rounds out the trio of transfers.
Saturday's Opponents: FIU comes to Jacksonville as the defending Conference-USA Champions. The Panthers claimd their first Conferece-USA title and raned. No. 35 in the final CollgeSwimming.com rankings. Fellow CCSA foe, Georgia Southern will also be featured in Saturday's tri-meet. The Eagles placed third in last year's championships, compliing 1,100.5 points during the four-day event.
