Strong Final Round Vaults #WGolf to 4th Place Tie at ASun Championship

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- In just its second year as a program, the North Florida women's golf team grabbed a share of fourth place after Wednesday's final round action of the 2014 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at Jekyll Island Golf Club's Pine Lakes course.
Carding their lowest round of the tournament of 301, the Ospreys finished the three-day event with total of 921 to tie Florida Gulf Coast and Jacksonville. A trio of linksters including Emelie Alpe, Nathalie Nygren and Belinda George shared team best finish honors in a tie for 21st at 232. Alpe carded a final round 74 with Nygren shooting a 76 and George finishing with a 78.
Sophomore Kelly Aylwin was the team's top performer on the last day carding a 1-over 73, which equalled the team's best round of the championship. Aylwin finished in a tie for 32nd at 238, while freshman Lauren Coe was tied for 27th at 234.
ETSU captured the team championship in the final season of play in the Atlantic Sun. The Bucs finished at 896 with Kennesaw State claiming the runner up spot at 903. Mercer finished third at 905 followed by UNF, FGCU and JU in fourth. Stetson was fifth at 932 with Northern Kentucky (955), Lipscomb (961) and USC Upstate (979) rounding out the team standings.
ETSU's Vivienne Chin carded a 54-hole 219 to capture the individual medalist honor.
In addition to posting a fourth Top 5 finish of the season, North Florida's tie with rival Jacksonville earned the Ospreys another half point in the SunTrust River City Rumble competition and keeps the overall score tied at 9-9 with just two points remaining (men's golf and women's outdoor track). UNF would retain the Old Wooden Barrel with a final score tie.
