Jacksonville, Fla. – The North Florida women's soccer team fell to the Northern Kentucky Norse 2-0 in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Tournament in a windy Saturday afternoon at Hodges Stadium.

The Ospreys close the season at 5-12-1 in Robin Confer's first year at the helm, while the Norse (9-7-3) move on to the Atlantic Sun semifinals against Florida Gulf Coast next Friday in Fort Myers, Fla.

"Obviously we are disappointed with the result, Northern Kentucky is a great team and congratulations to them. It's never easy playing in these conditions with the wind but both teams have to play in it," said head coach Robin Confer. "They capitalized on their chances and we struggled a little bit to create chances today."

The Norse got their first goal of the game in the fourth minute when Aubrey Muench took advantage of a goal-box scramble and settled the ball just outside the six-yard box and powered home the shot to the middle of the net.

The Ospreys were stifled by both the wind and the Norse defense, who held North Florida to no shots on goal in the first half and held the 1-0 lead.

Northern Kentucky scored the second goal of the match in the 52^nd minute. Muench drove into the box and almost sent in her second goal of the match, but Osprey senior keeper Megan Dorsey was able to deflect the ball away. However, her deflection landed at the foot of Jessica Frey, who found the net and the 2-0 win.

The Ospreys best shot attempt actually came from midfield on a free kick by Junior Lanie Keating. The shot lasered towards the right side of the net but keeper Brooke Schocker made the stop.

The Norse held both the shots (10-7) and shots-on-goal category (5-1).

Dorsey's three saves on the day pushed her season total to 96, breaking her own all-time, single-season record for saves.

"At the end of the day I'm proud of the team for the way they fought back after the start of the season. When we got into conference play we wanted to finish in the top half and we finished fourth. We were picked to finish sixth and finished fourth," added Confer. "We are going to take the positives from the season, and we have a lot of young players who gained valuable experience this year, and that will only help us going forward."
