JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The North Florida women's soccer team returns home for two A-Sun matchups this weekend at Hodges Stadium. They host the Spartans of USC Upstate on Friday at 7 p.m., before facing the Owls of Kennesaw State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Ospreys (3-9-1, 1-1-1 A-Sun) are coming off of a strong weekend on the road in conference play. Going 1-0-1 and earning four crucial points in A-Sun play against Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky.
Senior goalkeeper
Megan Dorsey recorded her first shutout of the season on Friday against the Lipscomb Bisons in a 0-0, double-overtime draw. On Sunday, freshman
Jess Kinlaw scored her first career goal and freshman
Kayla Gray added her third goal of the season in a 2-1 win over the Northern Kentucky Norse.
Dorsey now has 80 saves this season, leading the Atlantic Sun conference. Gray's three goals rank 10
th in the conference and first on the team. Senior
Jill Holdsworth has a team-leading four assists, good for fourth in the conference.
The Spartans (2-9-1, 0-2-1) are coming off a tough weekend of conference play, dropping a 3-0 decision to Florida Gulf Coast on Oct. 3 before falling to Stetson 3-2 on Oct. 5.
"This weekend it will be nice to be at home and once again we have two tough conference matches," said head coach
Robin Confer. "USC Upstate hasn't had the results they wanted but they have played teams well and are going to come in ready to compete."
The Owls (4-8-1) played both Stetson and FGCU this past weekend as well. Winning 2-1 over Stetson on Oct. 3 before dropping a close match to FGCU, 2-1 in overtime, on Oct. 5
"KSU is a dangerous team and will be organized as a unit," added Confer. "We will need to be at our best this weekend to earn some points."
