JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida Women's Soccer team plays host to Northern Kentucky in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Tournament this Saturday at noon at Hodges Stadium.
"We have had a good week of practice and are looking forward to playing at Hodges tomorrow," said head coach
Robin Confer. "NKU is a dangerous team in the attack and they have the freshman player of the year who has been great for them this season."
The Ospreys (5-11-1, 3-3-1 A-Sun) finished fourth in the final conference standings, this will be the first time they have hosted a postseason match since 2010.
The Norse (8-7-3, 3-3-1 A-Sun) finished fifth in the final conference standings. North Florida held the tiebreaker advantage by way of their 2-1 regular-season win over Northern Kentucky.
The 2-1 match was highlighted by two goals by UNF freshmen.
Jess Kinlaw and
Kayla Gray both found the net in the win. Both Kinlaw and Gray were honored earlier this week as members of the Atlantic Sun All-Conference Second Team.
The winner of Saturday's match will move on to the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament, where they will face top-seeded Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla., next Friday.
"We know we have to put together a good performance to get a result. NKU is finally eligible to compete in the conference tournament and it is well deserved opportunity for them," added Confer. "They will be excited and will come in with energy on Saturday."
Saturday's match will be live streamed on A-Sun TV, with live stats and a full recap following the action on UNFOspreys.com.
