JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two first half goals by junior Amanda Fischler and senior Jill Holdsworth proved to be the difference in a 2-0 shutout win over the USC-Upstate Spartans Friday night at Hodges Stadium.
Â
The Ospreys move to 2-1-1 in A-Sun conference play and 4-9-1 overall following Friday's win.
Â
"It's great to get two straight wins in conference play. To be able to carry over the confidence following the win last Sunday was huge," said head coach Robin Confer. "We emphasized when we started conference play that it was a whole new season. They had a great weekend last weekend and a great result tonight, now we face a very good Kennesaw State team and need to be ready."
Â
Fischler's goal came in the 18th minute, when freshman Kayla Gray dribbled the ball into the box and then crossed it in to Fischler, who found the top right of the net for her first goal of the season.
Â
The Ospreys put away their second goal in the 31st minute, when Holdsworth fielded the ball to 35 yards out and ripped an upper 90's shot into the top left of the net for her first goal of the season.
Â
"We've been working on getting more in our attacking third, we had a great first half with two goals that gave us a little bit of a cushion," added Confer. "We didn't have as good of a second half and we let Upstate get some good opportunities. We've got to get better at putting together a consistent performance in both halves, we just need to work on taking what we did on the first half and building on it in the second."
Â
Senior keeper Megan Dorsey earned the win and her second shutout of the season.
Â
The Ospreys held the advantage in shots (15-7) and shots-on-goal (8-6) in tonight's contest.
Â
North Florida is back in action Sunday afternoon when they host the Owls of Kennesaw State at 1 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.
