JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The University of North Florida women's tennis team opens the spring season at the three-day UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla., at the UCF Tennis Complex.
Â
"This is a great kickoff weekend to one of the most opportunistic seasons in UNF women's tennis history," said head coach Audra Cohen. "We have two new players and the injured players from the fall are ready to go. Now it's about getting matches under our belt and embracing the pressure of competition."
Â
The Ospreys will join Furman, Florida International and UCF at the tournament. UNF is scheduled to play FIU in doubles on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m., followed by singles matches against Furman.
Â
In the fall, UNF reached the finals at several tournaments. Mariella Calderon advanced to the consolation championship match at the 2013 Bedford Cup. At the UNF Invitational, the Ospreys reached four finals. Simona Weymar won the No. 1 consolation final, while Marina Cunningham took the No. 2 championship. Meanwhile, Taylor Hollander reached the No. 3 singles finals. Hollander and Cunningham also reached the No. 1 doubles title match.
