Pair of Spragg Goals Key in #MSOC Victory

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team received two goals from Drew Spragg en route to a 4-1 victory over UNC Asheville on Saturday night at Patton Park. The goals were the first two of the sophomore's career and helped the Ospreys remain unbeaten at 3-0-1.

Offensively, the Ospreys recorded 23 shots compared to just three by the Bulldogs. All three shots by UNCA were on goal, while UNF finished the night with 12 shots on goal.

Spragg powered the offensive attack finishing the night with four shots, three shots on goal and a pair of goals. Jake Frahm made his only shot of the night count as the sophomore scored his first goal of the season. Max McDaniel converted a penalty kick for the Ospreys to provide the final goal of the night for North Florida. Jean Rivaroli and Jon-Michael Vieira were credited with helpers in the match.

For UNC Asheville, Kenny Lingerfelt led the offense. He finished the night with two shots, two shots on goal and a goal. Mick Giordano recorded an assist on the goal.

Defensively, the Ospreys were able to limit the Bulldogs offensive attack. Brad Sienkiewicz posted a pair of saves on the night. In addition, he was able to punch out several cross attempts by UNCA to thwart any sort of offensive attack.

North Florida was the first team to score. Spragg took a pass from Rivaroli and pushed it 15 yards out. The sophomore placed it in the lower right corner of the goal for his first collegiate goal in the 20th minute of the match. The goal was the only netted in the first half and the Ospreys led 1-0 at intermission.

UNC Asheville struck quickly in the second half. In the 49th minute, Lingerfelt took a pass from Giordano and beat a charging goalie one-on-one to tie the score at 1-1.

Just seven minutes later, Spragg netted his second goal of the match. The ball deflected off of a defender and was recovered by Spragg in front of the goal. The Orlando native put the ball in the back of the net to give North Florida the lead. The goal proved to be the match-winner as the Ospreys were able to prevent any Bulldog goals.

In the 64th minute, Frahm added an insurance goal. The defender was able to play a ball off of a free kick by Vieira to put North Florida in front 3-1. The final goal of the match came in the 88th minute as McDaniel was fouled in the box. The sophomore converted the PK to provide the final margin of victory for the Ospreys.

North Florida hits the road for a pair of matches in South Florida. The Ospreys will play FIU in Miami on Friday, Sept. 20 (7:00 p.m.) before concluding the weekend in Boca Raton against Florida Atlantic on Sunday, Sept. 22 (2:00 p.m.).Â
