JACKSONVILLE – The North Florida basketball team makes the quick trip across town Friday for the rematch game of the SunTrust River City Rumble against rival Jacksonville in Veterans Memorial Arena at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live on CSS.
The Ospreys (10-16, 5-8 ASun) will look to even the score this season after dropping a tough 77-68 decision to the Dolphins (12-14, 7-6) almost a month ago at UNF Arena. North Florida dropped their last outing at Mercer on Feb. 9, but has won two of its last three contests. Jacksonville is in the midst of a three-game losing skid after falling at Kennesaw State last Saturday.
Friday's tilt marks the 19th meeting between the crosstown rivals on the hardwood with the Dolphins owning a 14-4 lead in the all-time series. Prior to their loss on Jan. 18, the Ospreys had won three in a row in the series. Six of the last seven meetings between the two teams have been decided by eight points or less.
In the season's first game between the pair, Jacksonville pulled away late making 16 of 20 free throws in the second half and collecting 19 second chance points. The Ospreys were led by 19 points from Parker Smith while Will Wilson handed out 11 assists in the game.
Smith currently ranks among the leaders in scoring and three-point shooting in the Atlantic Sun averaging 16.5 points and 3.8 treys a game. Travis Wallace is chipping in 14.3 points and a team-best 5.2 rebounds a game while Wilson leads the conference with 7.1 assists per game in league play and a 3.0 assist-turnover ratio.
Jacksonville features a balanced attack led by Keith McDougald's 12.5 points per game. Glenn Powell is one of the conference's top rebounders pulling down 7.1 rebounds a game.
Fans can follow all the exciting action live on the radio on 1010 XL AM/92.5 FM, The Flagship Stations of the UNF Sports Network, as well as online via the radio network link at www.1010xl.com. Real-time live stats can be found at JUDolphins.com. The game will also be carried live on the internet at WatchESPN.com (outside of the CSS broadcast area).
Following Friday's contest, North Florida hosts its final home games of the season next week beginning Thursday (Feb. 21) against ETSU.
