JACKSONVILLE – The North Florida basketball team closes out its brief home stand Saturday at 4:30 p.m against in-state foe Stetson at UNF Arena. The game is sponsored by Walgreens. In addition, the men's basketball team will be collecting donations of new stuffed animals for the Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless.
The Ospreys (8-15, 3-7 ASun) will look to end their current four-game skid following a tough loss to Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday night. The Hatters (9-12, 6-4) have dropped their last two outings including a one-point loss at JU on Thursday.
Saturday's tilt marks the 17th meeting between UNF and Stetson on the hardwood with the Hatters holding a 10-6 lead in the all-time series. The Ospreys have claimed the last two meetings in the series topping the 90-point mark in out contests.
In the season's first game between the pair, Parker Smith connected on 9-of-10 three-pointers en route to a season high 33 points.
Smith currently leads the Atlantic Sun in scoring at 19.0 points per game in league play. He ranks second in the nation in three-pointers making four per contest and is on pace to set a new UNF and ASun single season mark for treys. In addition, Smith and Travis Wallace (14.4 ppg) form one of the top scoring tandems in the conference.
Stetson is one of the league's top scoring teams averaging 70.9 points a game. The Hatters are led in scoring by Adam Pegg and Chris Perez, both averaging 15.8 ppg. The duo lead the ASun in tandem point production.
