FT. MYERS, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team looks to continue on its historic run when they take on East Tennessee State in the Atlantic Sun Conference championship match, Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
In Friday's semifinal match, the Ospreys upset top-seeded FGCU 2-1 to reach the program's first ASun title match.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Alex Morrell made a pass to Luis Daniel Camejo who finished the play to the back of the net to give the Ospreys a 1-0 lead.
In the 80th minute, Pedro Carneiro blasted a shot from 18 yards out to extend the Ospreys lead 2-0.
FGCU responded with a goal in the 83rd minute when Henry Penagos sent a chip shot over the goalkeeper, but the goal would not be enough to mount a comeback for the Eagles.
ETSU came into the tournament as the No. 2 seed and earned a first round bye. On Friday night, ETSU took down third-seeded Lipscomb 1-0 to earn their third trip to the A-Sun Championship Final.
The Buccaneers won the A-Sun Championship in 2010 with a 2-1 victory vs. Mercer in Johnson City, Tenn.
The Ospreys dropped a 1-0 decision to ETSU in a defensive battle earlier this season. The Buccaneers were able to break the scoreless tie in the 84th minute of the match.
The championship match is set for Sunday, November 17th at 1 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
