Yeisha Arcia had a 17-kill, 16-dig double-double for Florida A&M and hit .343, while Katherine Huanec notched 20 kills. Ginna Lopez-Chavez added 11 kills and a .455 hitting percentage. Diana Gonzales recorded 49 assists and Joanie Del Castillo made 33 digs.
The first set was extremely close with 19 ties and three lead changes. Down by two, UNF took advantage of two Florida A&M miscues to even the set at 17-17. The Ospreys and Florida A&M continued to trade points throughout the remainder of the set until UNF tallied back-to-back points late into the set. Facing set point, a kill from
Saelina Dunn and then a block from
Cameron McGuire and Budinska gave the Ospreys a 25-24 lead. Florida A&M forced the 19th tie of the set at 25-25 on an Andrea Soriano kill, but kills from Budinska and
Erin Edwards allowed UNF to take the first set.
UNF erased a five-point deficit midway through the second set in order to take a 16-15 lead. The Ospreys used an 8-2 run to take their first lead of the set, gaining that one-point advantage on a Florida A&M attack error. However, after trading points, Florida A&M used a 3-0 run to regain the lead and go up 19-17 on an Osprey attack error. UNF was able to pull to within one twice, but the Lady Rattlers strung back-to-back points together two times in order to distance themselves from the Ospreys and tie the match up at 1-1.
Poor hitting plagued the Ospreys in the third set as UNF also had to contend with a Florida A&M team that hit .400 for the set. Several early runs allowed the Lady Rattlers to quickly distance themselves from the Ospreys and go up 14-7. UNF was able to trim the deficit down to five with a
Morgan Van Alstine kill to make it 15-10. However, Florida A&M continued to pull away from UNF and ultimately used a late 5-0 run to gain a 12-point lead.
UNF held an early four-point advantage in the fourth set, going up 13-9 on a McGuire-Van Alstine block. Florida A&M chipped away at the Ospreys' lead and tied the set a 18-18 on an Arcia kill. A kill from Dunn put UNF up by one point before a Lopez-Chavez kill sparked a match-ending 7-0 run for the Lady Rattlers.
The Ospreys return to action on Friday at Lipscomb. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m., EST/6:30 p.m., CST.
