
Ospreys Host Bears to Begin Home Stand

JACKSONVILLE – The North Florida basketball team opens up a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference home stand against Mercer in UNF Arena Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Ospreys (7-10, 2-2 ASun) look to rebound after a disappointing 75-73 loss at Florida Gulf Coast on Monday night. UNF rallied from 18 points down versus FGCU but saw a closing second basket just miss. Mercer (9-7, 2-1) is also coming off a loss having dropped an 83-75 decision at Kennesaw State in their last outing.
Thursday's tilt marks the 15th meeting between UNF and MU on the hardwood. The Bears hold an 11-3 lead in the all-time series with the two squads having split their regular season meetings the past two seasons. UNF claimed the last meeting in the series 75-66 on Feb. 20, 2012 in UNF Arena. Parker Smith scored a program record 46 points including 11 treys in that game to lead the Ospreys.
Smith leads the team in scoring at 16.4 points per game and is currently ranked third in the nation making 3.9 three-pointers a game. Junior Travis Wallace has reached double digits in 13 straight games ranking second on team in scoring (15.0 ppg) and tops in rebounding (5.1 rpg). Smith and Wallace are currently the ASun's top scoring tandem.
Mercer is the league's top defensive squad allowing just 58.1 points per game and holding opponents' to just 40 percent from the floor. Travis Smith is the Bear's top scorer with 12.5 ppg and Jakob Gollon paces MU on the glass with 4.2 rpg.
