CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team fell to the top-ranked Virginia Cavaliers on Friday night, 7-0, in the first match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
The Ospreys pushed Virginia, who entered the day with three players ranked in the top 10 nationally, as well as three doubles pairs ranked in the top 10 nationally, to the brink during the doubles point. After seniors
Pedro Davisson and
Julien Belair fell, 8-3, at No. 2, both of the other Osprey pairings forced a tiebreak against their nationally-ranked opponent. Unfortunately, senior
Daniel Sotomarino and sophomore
Timo Kranz fell in their tiebreaker, 8-7(2), thus senior Mortiz Buerchner and sophomore
Norbert Nemcsek's match was abandoned.
The Cavaliers swept all six singles matches in straight sets.
The Ospreys will face off against No. 62 Georgia State, who fell to No. 55 Arkansas in Friday's opening match, in tomorrow's consolation match, beginning at 2 p.m.
