CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team fell to No. 62 Georgia State in a tight 4-3 decision on Saturday afternoon at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, hosted by the Boar's Head Sports Club.
"This was a tough loss for us," Head Coach Adam Schaechterle said. "We think we had a chance to beat a very good Georgia State team."
Although Georgia State won the doubles point, senior
Moritz Buerchner and sophomore
Norbert Nemcsek fought back at #1 doubles, winning eight straight games after falling behind 4-0 to capture an 8-4 victory.
Senior
Daniel Sotomarino grabbed a hard-fought singles victory at #3, besting Paul Schuette in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Senior
Julien Belair steadily controlled the duration of his match at #4 singles, as he downed Lucas Santa Ana, 6-4, 6-2. In his first dual match of the season, senior
Leonardo Nahar romped at #6 singles, trouncing Sofiane Chevallier, 6-1, 6-1.
"This was a weekend we can use to learn from and build on," Schaechterle said. "This was a very high-quality pair of teams and we can use these matches to get better."
The Ospreys will next be in action when they return to the commonwealth of Virginia on February 1 for a match at William & Mary.
