UNF Pair Completes Pool Play at AVCA Sand Volleyball Nationals

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The North Florida sand volleyball tandem of Dagnija Medina and Emily Strack posted a 1-2 record Friday in opening day pool play action at the 2012 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Sand Volleyball National Pairs Championship.
The Osprey pair dropped a tough 21-10, 21-17 decision against the Florida State duo of Pardon/Stepanova to start the day's competition. UNF then fell 21-12, 21-16 to the team of Urango/Shaw from Southern Cal before ending the day with a hard fought 2-1 (18-21, 21-19, 15-12) victory over Hawaii's Stoltzman/Harong team.
Medina/Strack finished tied for second in their pool but earn the fourth seed designation in bracket play because of point differential tie breakers. USC's Urango/Shaw claimed the pool title with an undefeated 3-0 record.
The UNF duo is one of two Atlantic Sun pairs competing in the inaugural event. Stetson's duo of Melville/Bassett posted a 0-3 record in their pool play competition.
Saturday features the four-team AVCA team championship before pairs play returns with Sunday's single elimination 16-team bracket, with pairings to be released later in the AVCA event.
