
Ospreys Host Lipscomb in ASun Hoops Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida basketball team returns to action after a week off as the Ospreys close out the 2012 calendar Monday against Lipscomb in UNF Arena at 4:30 p.m.
 
The Ospreys (5-8) carry a two-game overall win streak and six-game home win streak into their Atlantic Sun Conference opener against the Bison (5-6). UNF captured the title at the Las Vegas Classic on Dec. 22-23 before breaking for the Christmas holiday.
 
UNF and LU will be meeting for the 14th time with the Bison holding an 8-5 advantage in the all-time series. North Florida has enjoyed some recent success having won three straight and four of the last five.
 
Junior Travis Wallace is the reigning ASun Player of the Week after leading UNF to the tournament title and claiming tournament MVP honors. Wallace has scored double digits in 10 consecutive games including the last three with 20+ points. He currently ranks second on the team in scoring (14.2 ppg) and leads the squad in rebounds (4.9 rpg).
 
Senior Parker Smith is the Ospreys' top scorer at 15.5 points per game and ranks 6th in the NCAA making 3.7 three-pointers per game. Fellow senior Will Wilson ranks second in the ASun for assists (5.5 apg) and is the league's top performer in assist-turnover ratio (2.1).
 
Against Georgia Southern in the Las Vegas Classic championship game, UNF shot 54 percent from the floor in the game and posted the largest win in the program's Division I history (28 points), 74-46. Smith also collected his first double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Lipscomb has dropped two of their last three games. The Bison feature four double-digit scorers led by Martin Smith at 12.9 points per game. Freshman Stephen Hurt, the current ASun Newcomer of the Week, is averaging 11.0 points and 8.4 rebounds a contest.

A special ticket offer is in effect for the UNF-Lipscomb game. Any fan showing their 2013 Gator Bowl ticket can purchase a ticket to the UNF game for half price.
