JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team fell to Stetson, 4-3 on Friday afternoon in Atlantic Sun Conference competition at UNF Tennis Complex.
UNF (11-4, 6-2 A-Sun) won the No. 2 doubles match, but lost the point as Stetson (16-2, 7-2 A-Sun) took an early 1-0 lead.
Melanie Aguirre and Danielle Day teamed up in the No. 2 for an 8-6 win over MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell and Sierra Sullivan. Aguirre and Day improve to 13-2 on the season.
In singles action, the Ospreys claimed wins in the No. 2, 3 and 4 matches. Day defeated Unnati Purushotham in the No. 2 with scores of 6-4, 7-6(5).
UNF's Victoria Krook took the No. 3 singles, in straight sets, defeating Shannon Gunning, 6-1, 6-3.
In the No. 4 singles, Aguirre battled with Stauffer-MacDowell, going to three sets. Aguirre lost the first set, 6-3, but came back to take the next two, 6-4 and 6-1.
The Ospreys will return to the court on Saturday, hosting Florida Gulf Coast in a 10 a.m. match at the UNF Tennis Complex.
