NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team defeated Atlantic Sun Conference opponent, Belmont, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn.

UNF (11-3, 6-1 A-Sun) swept the doubles' matches to get out to a 1-0 lead over the Bruins (5-11, 1-6 A-Sun).

Simona Weymar and Aline Berkenbrock paired up for UNF in the No. 1 to defeat Abigail Hogan and Abby Leatherwood, 8-4.

In the No. 2 doubles match, Melanie Aguirre and Danielle Day combined for an 8-2 win over Laura Stack and Lindsay Bennett. The UNF duo improves to 12-2 on the season.

Victoria Krook and Melinda Doak secured a win in the No. 3, defeating Natalia Nunes and Catherine Holliday, 8-5.

The Ospreys claimed five wins in singles play as four of the matches were won in straight sets. Berkenbrock downed Leatherwood, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 while Krook claimed a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Holliday in the No. 3.

In the No. 4 singles, Aguirre defeated Bennett, 6-2, 6-3. Weymar grabbed a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hogan.

Doak battled in the No. 6 singles, coming out with a win over Laura Stack. After falling behind 6-2 in the opening set, Doak came back for a 6-3 win in the second set. The UNF player went on to win the tiebreak 10-8.

In the No. 1 singles, Day went back and forth with Fabina Mersan. Day took the opening set 6-4, but Mersan answered with a 7-5 win in the second set. Mersan held of Day in the tiebreaker to secure the match with a 10-7 win.

UNF will be back in action for a three match home stand beginning with UCF on Wednesday, March 30 in a 2 p.m. match at the UNF Tennis Complex.
