Hleb Maslau secures a big win in the No. 1 singles.

Ospreys Defeat Lipscomb, 4-3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a late start time, the University of North Florida men's tennis team came out with a victory, claiming a 4-3 win over Lipscomb in a back and forth Atlantic Sun Conference battle on Friday night in Nashville, Tenn.

The two teams did not begin play until 7 p.m. CST and finished up around midnight due to inclement weather on Friday in Nashville.

UNF (10-6, 5-1 A-Sun) secured the doubles point early to take a 1-0 lead over the Bison (6-7, 3-3 A-Sun), as the Ospreys claimed wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches.

The UNF duo of Daniel Sotomarino and Hleb Maslau continued their strong play this season in the No. 2, improving to 14-2 with an 8-1 win over Colby Shaw and Miguel Cortez.

In the No. 3 match, Moritz Buerchner and Pedro Davisson paired up to defeat Tanner Brown and David Salazar, 8-6.

Maslau played a tightly contested match in the No. 1 as he and LU's Oliver Strecker went to three close sets. The Osprey player took the first set 7-6(3), but Strecker came back in the second set for a 7-6(3) win. In the final set, the two again went down to a tiebreak, but Maslau came out with a 7-6(3) win.

UNF also claimed points from Buerchner and Beuregard Treyz in singles play as both defeated their opponents in straight sets.

Buercher secured a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Chad Pierron in the No. 3 match while Treyz had a 6-4, 6-4 win over Shaw in the No. 6.

The other three single matches were three set battles with LU coming out on top. In the No. 2, Sotomarino faced Salazar with Sotomarino taking the first set, 7-5. Salazar responded to claim the match with scores of 6-3 and 6-1 in the next two sets.

Nahar squared off against Brown in the No. 4 match. Brown won the opening set, 6-1, but Nahar came back in the second set for a 6-2 win. In the final set, Brown notched a 6-2 win to claim the point for the Bison.

In the No. 5, UNF's Davisson faced Cortez who won the first set 6-2, but Davisson answered in the second set with a 6-2 win. Cortez held off Davisson in the final set for a 7-5 win.

UNF will be back on the court on Saturday, March 26, remaining in Nashville to face Belmont.
