
Volleyball Hosts A-Sun Leaders

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –Playing five of its next six matches at home, the North Florida volleyball team welcomes two of the Atlantic Sun's top teams to UNF Arena for a pair of important league contests as UNF plays Friday against Belmont at 7 p.m. and then hosts Lipscomb Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Ospreys enter the weekend with an 8-12 overall record and a 2-4 mark in ASun play. UNF is 3-1 at home this season and looks to snap a current three-match losing skid.
As a team, UNF ranks third in the conference in blocking at 1.82 blocks per set. A trio of Osprey players are listed among the league's elite in blocking with Carolyn Jenkins ranked third (0.89 bps), Marija Pantovic 9th (0.79) and Dagnija Medina 19th (0.65).
Paige Pridgeon, who last weekend became just the ninth player in program history to reach 1,000 kills for a career, leads the team and is ranked fifth in the conference in kills at 3.36 per set. She has recorded 10 double-doubles this season including a 12-kill, 10-dig performance at USC Upstate.
Freshman setter Casey Giovanazzi is listed fifth in assists with 8.94 per set. Defensively, junior libero Nicole Baran ranks second in the Atlantic Sun with 4.41 digs per set.
Belmont owns a 13-7 record for the year including a 4-1 mark in conference matches. The Bruins have won 11 of their last 13 matches and saw a seven-match win streak snapped last week in a 3-2 loss at Lipscomb. Maggie Johnson leads the conference in kills with 4.58 per set. UNF is just 1-7 all-time versus Belmont with the lone victory coming in 2005.
Lipscomb enters the weekend atop the ASun standings with a perfect 5-0 conference record to go along with their 11-6 season mark. The Bisons have won nine straight matches and play at Jacksonville on Friday night. Lipscomb leads the league in kills (13.85 per set) and hitting percentage (.234). The Ospreys are 2-6 in the series with the Bisons earning their last win in 2006.
In addition, Friday's match with Belmont has been designated as “Dig Pink” night. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
Following this weekend's home stand, UNF travels to Bethune-Cookman on Nov. 18 for the only road contest during a three week span.
