JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – No. 60 University of North Florida women's tennis team fell to No. 75 East Tennessee State, 5-2 on Saturday in Johnson City, Tenn. at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center.
The Ospreys (17-2, 8-1 A-Sun) picked up wins at the No.1 and No. 4 singles. Sophomore Aline Berkenbrock remained undefeated on the season with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1 over No. 119 Yevgeniya Stupak. Stupak was picked as the 2010 A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year and was on a 10 match win streak entering into the contest with the Ospreys.
Junior Victoria Krook secured her match at No. 4 in three sets with scores of 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 over Karina Kedzo. Freshman Melanie Aguirre battled at No. 5 before falling 6-4, 6-7 (2-8), 1-0 (10-3).
The Bucs (15-3, 9-0 A-Sun) picked up the doubles early, winning two of the three matches. Berkenbrock teamed up with senior Raquel Castro to defeat Stupak and Kelly Holtzhausen, 8-4 at No. 1.
ETSU secured the A-Sun regular season title with the win. UNF is the third ranked team that the Bucs have defeated this season.
The Ospreys will be back in action on Wednesday, April 7 when they host crosstown A-Sun rival Jacksonville. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at UNF Tennis Complex.
