JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team swept Mercer, 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic Sun play in Macon, Ga. The Ospreys improve to 14-1 on the season and remain undefeated in the league at 6-0.
The Ospreys picked up the doubles point early over the Bears (5-5, 1-4 A-Sun) as sophomore Aline Berkenbrock and senior Raquel Castro defeated Jennifer Lada and Amalia Bugge, 8-5 at No. 1. Juniors Lauren Holton and Victoria Krook defeated Stephanie Cohen and Sarah Hanna, 8-0 at No. 3.
Berkenbrock continued her undefeated streak in singles action with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No.1 over Lada. Castro battled Anna Wieslander at No. 2 before securing the point in three sets, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 10-4.
Sophomore transfer Danielle Day defeated Bugge in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 while Krook defeated Priscilla Dias, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.
Freshman Melanie Aguirre grabbed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Stephanie Cohen in the No. 5 singles. Holton also remained undefeated on the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hanna at No. 6.
UNF will remain on the road, traveling to Orlando, Fla. on Wednesday, March 24 for a 4 p.m. match against Central Florida.
