DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team defeated Bethune-Cookman, 6-1 on Friday afternoon in Daytona Beach, Fla. at City Island Tennis Center.
UNF improves to 7-1 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 0-4.
“We had a very solid team performance today,” said UNF assistant coach Ronnie Sang. “We are really looking forward to our first two Atlantic Sun conference matches next weekend against Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.”
Sophomore Aline Berkenbrock defeated Katarina Szaboova, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match. In the No. 2 singles match sophomore transfer Danielle Day downed Shereen Peterson-Paul, 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Victoria Krook picked up the 6-1, 6-1 win over Stacey Lopez in the No. 3 singles while junior Lauren Holt dropped Valeshia Kendrick, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles. Sophomore transfer Heather St. John picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 6 singles match.
The Ospreys also won the doubles points by sweeping all three matches. Berkenbrock teamed up with junior Raquel Castro in the No. 1 doubles to defeat Szaboova and Hankova, 8-0. In the No. 2 Day and freshman Melanie Aguirre defeated Lopez and Peterson-Paul, 8-1. Krook and Holton paired up to down Kendrick and Paez, 8-2 in the No. 3.
The Ospreys will return to action on Thursday, March 4 when they open Atlantic Sun play with a 2:30 p.m. match at Florida Gulf Coast. UNF will follow that up with a match at Stetson on Saturday, March 6 at 2 p.m.
