Adam O’Neill scored his first goal of the season in the loss

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team fell, 4-1, in a road match against Green Bay on Monday, Sept. 21.

“We preformed quite well in the first half, but made a pair of mistakes that gave them momentum,” UNF head coach Ray Bunch remarked after the match. “I think we will be ok when we start conference play, but we have to cut out the mistakes. Green Bay was a good team who were big and strong. The match was a bit deceptive. They had more shots, but the shots on goal were the same.”

“We had a good chance when the score was 1-0 to score, but we were unable and couldn't get the momentum. Their goalkeeper made some excellent stops and was able to keep us out of the goal and keep the momentum on their side.”

The Ospreys fell behind early and were unable to recover. The hosts scored four goals on the night including two in the first half and two more in the second. Despite being out-shot 21-to-7, the Ospreys matched the Phoenix with six shots on goal.

Junior forward Adam O'Neill paced the Ospreys on the night. O'Neill took two shots, including a pair of shots on goal and scored North Florida's goal.

O'Neill's first goal of the season came from top of the box as he beat the Green Bay goalie for the score.

O'Neill was joined by fellow junior forward Dario Grgic who also posted two shots that were both on goal.

Seniors Frank Dinzey, Matthew Hollyoak and Steven Lowenthal each added a shot apiece, with Dinzey's and Hollyoak's shots coming on goal.

Green Bay scored first as J.C. Banks scored in the 25th minute of the match. Banks added a second goal in the 31st minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Green Bay scored two more goals – one in the 57th minute and the 67th minute – to take a 4-0 lead before O'Neill's goal in the 68th minute.

North Florida returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 27, as they play host to in-state rival Florida Atlantic in a match slated for 3 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.
