Preston Hale hits winning home run in first inning

Box Score

NASHVILLE - University of North Florida baseball senior right-handed pitcher John Frawley recorded his fourth-straight complete game win and out dueled preseason Atlantic Sun Conference selection Rex Brothers as UNF pulled out a 1-0 win over Lipscomb on Friday evening.

Frawley (5-1) struck out eight Bisons and scattered five hits on his way to extending his personal winning streak to four games. It was his second complete game shut out of the season and third time he had allowed only five hits. He is now a perfect 4-0 in conference play.

UNF (15-20, 9-7 A-Sun) tallied only two hits against the dominant Brothers - who struck out 14 Ospreys - but one hit was all UNF needed.

With two outs in the top of the first, junior Preston Hale went opposite field and belted a Brothers pitch over the left field fence for the winning run.

Lipscomb's (13-20, 8-5) only multiple hit inning came in the bottom of the second, but the threat was stifled when the Bisons' Branden Cadavid lined out to Kevin Martin at first, who stepped on the bag to double off Tennyson Dodd.

UNF felt a little heat in the bottom of the eighth when Lipscomb's Antonio Butler hit a one-out triple to right center, but Frawley buckled down and struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

Frawley made it a quick bottom of the ninth, putting the Bisons down in order. Lipscomb made it past second base only four times and left five on base.

Junior Justin Preckajlo tallied UNF's other hit when he blasted a double to the gap in right center in the top of the sixth.

It was only the third time this season UNF picked up a victory when being out-hit. The Ospreys extended their winning streak against Lipscomb to three games and have now won eight of their last nine conference games.

UNF will wrap up the series with Lipscomb in Nashville at 2 p.m. eastern time on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast live on ASun.TV.
