JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Using momentum picked up in doubles play, the University of North Florida men's tennis team refused to slow down in singles action and left the UNF Tennis Complex with a 6-1 Atlantic Sun Conference win against Kennesaw State Friday afternoon.

“We thought we had the upper hand coming into the match,” UNF head coach Igal Buberman said. “The guys did exactly what they were asked to do and dominated the match.”

After the Ospreys (8-5, 3-2 A-Sun) sailed to two 8-2 wins and an 8-3 win in doubles action, three singles matches went to three sets, and UNF notched wins in two of them while the Owls (4-7, 0-2) saw their only win come at the fourth position.

Junior Ronnie Sang stormed back from a 6-3 opening set loss at the No. 2 position by taking the second set 6-2 and the third 7-5. Freshman Marcos Chiaretti watched the second set slip away 6-4 after winning the first 6-2 but responded by blanking his opponent 6-0 to take the win.

UNF eased through the Nos. 1, 5 and 6 singles matches in straight sets. Senior Federico Levi was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the top spot, junior Kurt Gattiker gathered a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 and sophomore Graham Edgar won his match 6-2, 6-1 in the fifth slot.

“Tomorrow will be a good matchup for us, but I expect our team to perform well again,” Buberman said.

UNF continues its five-match homestand and faces another A-Sun match Saturday morning against Mercer at 11 a.m. at the UNF Tennis Complex.
