NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team reached the double-digit win mark and stayed unbeaten in Atlantic Sun Conference play with a 7-0 win in its Music City finale against Lipscomb Saturday night.
"We are continuing to show improvement and played much better today than yesterday," UNF head coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "Playing indoors presents a big challenge, and we adapted well to today's conditions after also playing indoors against Belmont on Friday."
The Lady Ospreys (10-2, 4-0 A-Sun) sprinted to an early lead in the match by taking all three doubles matches. Sophomores Lauren Holton and Victoria Krook highlighted pairs action in the No. 3 doubles position, rolling to an 8-0 win against the Lady Bisons (6-7, 0-4). The duo ran their season record to 12-0 while Krook kept her individual record perfect with a straight-set win at the fifth singles spot. Freshman Aline Berkenbrock grabbed a 6-1, 6-1 win at the top singles slot, and four more Lady Ospreys were straight-set winners in singles play. Freshman Nikita van Lierop topped Elizabeth Keevil in three sets, winning the first 6-3 and the last 7-5. "All the girls played well today," Puebla said. "Nikita showed a boost in her confidence and closed out a tight match. The team is displaying its confidence and needs to carry that momentum into our conference matches next weekend."
UNF returns to home-court action next weekend, hosting Kennesaw State Friday and Mercer Saturday at the UNF Tennis Complex for more league action.
