NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team suffered its second-straight Atlantic Sun Conference loss Friday night against Belmont and fell for the second time in a row when the Bruins handed the Ospreys a 7-0 decision.
UNF (5-4, 1-2 A-Sun) managed only one match win in the contest – a junior Kurt Gattiker and freshman Marcos Chiaretti doubles win at the No. 2 position. The pair defeated Belmont's (6-5, 1-2) Joao Paoliello and Rodrigo Amaral 8-6.
The doubles point was decided by two close matches in the top and third slots. The Bruins posted an 8-6 win at the No. 1 position and escaped with a 9-8 outcome in the No. 3 spot.
The Ospreys were swept in singles action for the first time this season while junior Federico Levi lost only his second match of the season and UNF dropped the No. 6 singles match for the first time. Levi was one of three Ospreys to go into three sets, falling to Paoliello 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
Sophomore Graham Edgar fell in three sets to Renato Antun at the sixth spot, and Gattiker came out on the wrong end of a three-set decision at the No. 5 position. Edgar's loss is his first of the season.
The swing through Music City comes to a close Saturday when the Ospreys take on Lipscomb at 10 a.m.
