JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Propelled by four straight-set wins in singles action, the University of North Florida men's tennis team held on to its perfect home record and moved its overall record above the even mark Friday when it sent South Carolina State away from the UNF Tennis Complex by a score of 5-2.

“We played at a good level today against a very good team,” UNF head coach Igal Buberman said. “The guys looked comfortable on the courts and played with a lot of confidence.”

Junior Federico Levi picked up wins at the top spot in singles and doubles play, teaming with freshman Marc Misanovic' for an 8-4 doubles win. The Ospreys (3-2) earned the doubles point when sophomore Graham Edgar and junior Ronnie Sang notched a must-have 9-7 win at the third doubles position.

“We had the opportunity to sweep doubles action but hesitated a little in the No. 2 position and dropped an 8-6 decision,” Buberman said. “However, we picked up the wins in the other two matches to take the point. Three weeks off helped the guys do a better job of communicating on the court and allowed them to learn to play together better.”

Levi ran his season record to 4-1 in the No. 1 singles slot with a 7-5, 6-0 win against Ivan Milvojevic. The Bulldogs got their wins in the second and third single slots, using three-set match wins by Radek Pivonka against Misanovic' and Gabriel Meana against Sang.

“Federico did a good job of staying in the match and dictating the late points,” Buberman said. “Marc also played particularly well today despite suffering the loss.”

The remainder of the singles matches was picked up in straight sets by the Ospreys. Junior Kurt Gattiker owned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4 while freshman Marcos Chiaretti eased to a 6-2, 6-0 win in the fifth position. Edgar edged past Jan Langer for the final singles win, 7-5, 6-4.

UNF will go for its third-straight home win when Georgia Southern visits the UNF Tennis Complex at 11 a.m on Saturday.
